Murra Hire was founded in 2020 by Melissa and Rudi Vann with a simple goal: to bring dependable, high-quality traffic equipment solutions to the NSW South Coast. What began as a small local operation has now expanded across NSW and the ACT regional and metro areas.
Since incorporation, we have diversified our equipment offerings and through consultation with our long-term clients, we identified key priorities in the hire industry: safety, reliability, responsiveness and custom equipment solutions. Murra Hire is committed to addressing these needs, delivering tailored solutions that keep projects running smoothly and efficiently.
Our clients include State Government, national traffic management companies, local councils, private enterprise and international event organisers. One of our standout offerings is our custom-built, patented design Portaboom trailers, developed in consultation with clients, specialist contractors and engineers to provide the safest and most reliable trailer on the market.

Meet the Owners
Melissa Vann
Director & General Manager
Melissa is a proud Aboriginal woman who grew up on Yuin Country, on the South Coast of New South Wales. As Co-Founder and Director of Murra Hire, she oversees operations, strategy, and growth initiatives across the business.
With extensive experience managing and mobilising multi-site commercial and government contracts across regional and metropolitan NSW and the Northern Territory, Melissa brings strong leadership and a deep understanding of industry needs. She is passionate about driving projects that create opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, with a focus on employment, training and mentoring programs, Indigenous supplier engagement, and community development.
Under Melissa’s direction, Murra Hire has implemented key operational systems to support its ongoing growth and efficiency. Through partnerships with SafetyCulture and Verizon Connect, the business has adopted advanced electronic platforms for equipment maintenance, scheduling, compliance, safety tracking, and asset management.
Melissa was the recipient of the Australian Institute of Company Directors Women’s Regional, Rural & Remote Diversity Scholarship, supported by the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet’s Office for Women — a recognition of her leadership, vision, and commitment to diversity in business.
Rudi Vann
Commercial Manager
Rudi grew up in Batemans Bay and maintains a strong connection to the local community and industry. As Commercial Manager, he oversees the mobilisation of corporate and government contracts, maintenance programs, servicing operations, and supplier partnerships.
Rudi’s technical expertise and long-standing industry relationships have been key to expanding Murra Hire’s equipment offering and successfully delivering complex, multi-site projects across New South Wales. Notable achievements include the design and launch of our custom portaboom trailers and the company’s major expansion into regional areas spanning from Ballina and the Snowy Hydro region to Bega. Rudi takes great pride in building and maintaining strong, lasting client relationships.
With an engineering background and over 12 years of analytical experience across the natural resources sector, Rudi brings a unique combination of technical insight and commercial acumen. His previous senior management roles across the APAC region included leading multiple research divisions and driving client engagement, data analysis, and the development of innovative research solutions for diverse industry partners.
